Meet Our Providers

Joan Halley, D.O.

Joan started her education as an undergraduate at Pacific Lutheran University. She completed medical school at the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific and her residency at Tacoma Family Medical Center. She is Board Certified through the American Board of Family Medicine.  Joan has been in family practice since completing her residency in 1990.  Since joining the practice, Peninsula Family Medical Center has been her home.  She loves to care for your whole family – children, parents and grandparents.  Family remains central in her life and Joan feels that Family Practice allows her to specialize in all aspects of family health care.  Joan enjoys gardening, reading and travel.  She also enjoys outreach in the community including the neighborhood clinic and her church.

Jennifer E. Smith, M.D.

Dr. Smith began working at Peninsula Family Medical Center in 2001.  She enjoys seeing patients of all ages.  “I particularly enjoy the fact that here at Peninsula Family Medical Center, I am able to develop a relationship with my patients and get to know them as individuals. And that together we can work to keep them healthy, active and able to do the things that are important to them."
She graduated from the University Of Washington School Of Medicine in 1997. She completed her Family Practice residency training at the Tacoma Family Medicine in 2001. She is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, Washington Academy of Family Physicians, Northwest Physicians Network and the Pierce County Medical Society.  She enjoys spending time with her family, exploring the beautiful Pacific Northwest, studying Spanish, and playing pickle ball.

Vincent M. Leverett, M.D.

Vincent graduated from University of North Dakota School of Medicine before completing his Family Practice Residency at Scottsdale Healthcare in Scottsdale, AZ.  He is a member of the AMA and the American Academy of Family Physicians.  Vincent has a special interest in sports medicine, as well as general family medicine. Vincent enjoys playing golf, fishing and skiing.

Erin Dodge, M.D.

Erin started her education with a Bachelors of Science at Washington State University before completing medical school at University of Washington. She completed her residency at Tacoma Family Medicine and is Board Certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.  She is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, Washington State Academy of Family Physicians and Pierce County Medical Society. Erin is married with two daughters and enjoys boating and traveling. She is also an avid Sounders fan.

Christine L. Harris, A.R.N.P.

Christine is an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner and has worked at PFMC since 1995.   She has a special interest in pediatrics, adolescent and adult women’s health, including preventative, acute and chronic illness care, health promotion, illness/injury prevention, vaccination and patient education. Christine holds a Master of Nursing from University of Washington and is a certified Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner and Registered Nurse.

Kerry Scarvie, P.A.

Kerry graduated from the Charles R. Drew Postgraduate Medical Schools Physician Assistant Program is Los Angeles before completing her residency in Emergency Medicine and the LAC/USC County Medical Center. She has worked with AIDS Project LA, Washington State Correctional Center for Women, Key Center Community Free Clinic and the Association of Flying Physicians attending rural clinics in Mexico. Kerry enjoys the performing arts and is on the board of directors for the Paradise Theater.

Jaime Payne, M.D.

Jaime grew up right here in Gig Harbor and swam for the GHHS Tides. After high school, she attended the University of San Diego where she swam all 4 years for the Torero’s. She completed both her Medical Doctorate (MD) and Masters of Public Health (MPH) at St. George’s University in Grenada, West Indies. Residency training in Family Medicine was at Valley Medical Center in Renton, WA. She spent the first 13 years of her career doing full spectrum Family Medicine in Tacoma, WA.

Areas of practice interests include: Infant and Pediatric care; Women’s healthcare, Sports medicine & Musculoskeletal care (including local joint injections), Chronic disease management, and Preventative healthcare.

She is married to her husband, Joel, and has 4 young children. In her spare time she is involved in different ministries at her local church, volunteers at her kids school, reads books, travels, cheers on her kids at their different sporting events/regattas. Boating and water/downhill skiing are some of her favorite outdoor things to do in the PNW.

Mathea H. Scott, A.R.N.P.

Mea graduated from the University of Washington with her Masters Degree in 2006. Her emphasis lies in Adult and Older Adult Health. She works to equip her patients with the most up to date information to help prevent disease and maintain healthy lifestyle habits throughout life. Mea enjoys outdoor activities, church activities, spending time with her family, and watching sporting events.

Christie Heany, PA-C

Christie completed her Masters in Physician Assistant Studies at A.T Still University in Mesa, AZ. She served in the National Health Service Corps as a PA-C at a local community health center before working for several years at Fircrest Family Medicine. Christie is married with two children. She enjoys gardening, playing sports, enjoying the outdoors and travel. 

Dianne Avey, A.R.N.P.

Dianne has over 25 years of experience as a board certified family Practice Nurse Practitioner.  She received her undergraduate and graduate education from the University of Washington.  Dianne believes in treating the “whole patient" and is particularly interested in prevention and early intervention of diseases.   She has additional training in functional medicine and where appropriate, she incorporates holistic approaches along with traditional treatment recommendations.  Dianne strongly believes in nutrition and lifestyle modification first and prescriptions second.  She is a Northwest native and lives on Anderson Island with her husband, son and one very lazy dog.  She enjoys hiking, kayaking and has a passion for writing poetry. 

Taylor Martin, PA-C

Taylor completed her bachelor's degree at the University of Montana (Go Griz!) before completing her master's at Misericordia University. She happily moved back to the West Coast and has been working in family medicine since 2017. Taylor has a passion for dermatology and aesthetics but also enjoys the challenge that lies within the many facets of primary care. Taylor is married, has one son, and a golden retriever. She loves spending time with family + friends, organizing, traveling, and exercising.

Benjamin Barrett, PA-C

Originally from the West Coast, Ben earned his Master of Physician Assistant Studies at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Ben has a background in orthopedic surgery, and he is passionate about providing quality primary care for a diverse spectrum of patients and medical issues. He views medicine as a collaborative relationship between patient and provider and seeks to help his patients navigate the healthcare system to provide a tailored experience for each individual. He loves caring for patients of all ages and in all stages of life, helping patients attain their health goals, performing procedures, and seeking to learn something new every day. When not at work, Ben enjoys spending time with his wife and daughters, exploring the mountains, and playing guitar. He and his family reside in Gig Harbor.

Jeanette Fisher, A.R.N.P.

Jeanette Fisher is a certified Family Nurse practitioner. She graduated with her Master of Science in Nursing from Spring Arbor University in Michigan. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Nursing from Roseman University of Health Science in Henderson, Nevada and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Biological Sciences from California State University Bakersfield. She is married and has two children. In her free time, she enjoys discovering new places in the Pacific Northwest. She and her family enjoy living in a region that offers the beauty of mountains and beaches with mild summers. 
Jeanette finds that family practice is a rewarding specialty of medicine. “Family practice allows me to treat patients regardless of their age or their condition, helping them to achieve a healthier state while respecting their individuality.” She joins Peninsula Family Medical Center, a place where each patient is treated with the utmost care and dedication. “There is nothing more gratifying than to see a patient getting better.”

Carlie Bergner, Practice Manager

Carlie was born and raised in the PNW. She graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration (BABA) in 2017. She spent eight years working as the Business Manager of an independent rheumatology practice before joining Peninsula Family Medical Center in 2023. Carlie lives on a farm with her husband, three children, and a whole flock of birds. She is a Seattle sports fan, a lover of all things Disney, and has a passion for event planning. She enjoys spending time with her family and vacationing in tropical climates.
